For those who follow the blog you’ve probably noticed a few changes taking place over the last month or so and I think now is as good of time as any to explain the bigger picture.
A long while back I realized I really wanted to change my business name. I’ve grown and changed a lot over the last two years and at some point I started feeling as if I had really outgrown Artistic Imageries. Maybe I just got tired of spelling the very long and confusing URL to people on the phone. Maybe it was that after spelling the whole company name out still receiving my new dell last year addressed to Artistic Imaging that pushed me over edge. I’m not sure.
The trick though of course was finding something new that I loved today but would also love in five or ten years. It had to be me. It had to be fun. It had to fit. I had to love it. And since this is business it had to be catchy, as phonetic as possible and available as a .com. This my friend is quite a list of requirements! This project sat in the back of my head for a long time. Well over a year and while I came up with several ideas I couldn’t find something that fit all of these requirements.
I’ve always been drawn to shades of blue. I love bright, punchy colors in my images and in my life. There is however this bright, powdery, leaning ever so slightly towards turquoise color that has become affectionately referred to by my close friends and family as Sacha Blue. You know it when you see it – in fact for a long time said friends and family would see something that color and remark that it was Sacha Blue. It seems that everything – from towels at Target to formal dresses at Macy’s – can be found in this bright color. I got a warm fuzzy blanket for Christmas and everyone in the room commented it on it being Sacha Blue.
One night a friend asked me why I didn’t just become Sacha Blue. This led into a few other conversations and pretty soon I found myself registering a pile of new domains and making a list of what would be needed to “launch” Sacha Blue. That list is long but a work in progress. Initially I was going to get everything done and then launch it all at sometime this summer. But, I realize that projects like this are a lot of work and best done in phases. Because I’m like a kid waiting to open Christmas presents I could hardly get a new blog and not use it for a few more months. And since the new blog is part of the Sacha Blue project I felt like it was the perfect time to ditch the old font and border on blogged images. It is just like the book “If You Give A Mouse A Cookie” …one thing leads to another and pretty soon I realize I should probably post and explain what is going on.
Simply a new company name, new logo, new blog, new site, and a little more focus that will end up with a few specific genres of photography – Sacha Blue Weddings, Sacha Blue Kids, Sacha Blue Seniors and Sacha Blue Sexy. I forget who pointed out that Sacha Blue Babies would just sound wrong…but thanks for the laugh. I think this means maternity and newborn sessions will end up with other kids sessions. 🙂 And if you haven’t bookmarked the blog or subscribed to my RSS Feed (which emails you when I post) you can now access it easily via sachablog.com
This post would not be complete without a few cool pictures. My friend and fellow Seattle wedding photographer extraordinaire Jen Nance hung out with me while I was photographing Jenny and Jason’s rainy engagement session on Sunday and took a few action shots of me working. I love how they really show off how much fun I have working as well as some of the crazy things I do to get the image in the camera to match the one in my mind. Don’t you think that they are quintessentially Sacha Blue? I’ve said it a million times but I feel like I have the coolest and most amazing job on the planet 🙂
