Hugged by a stranger…

A good friend of mine and I were talking a while back and I mentioned how cool it is that people really do read my blog and I know they do because they comment on how busy I’ve been and he made a very valid statement which I think applies right now – he said that he can tell when I’m REALLY busy because I don’t post anything for a while…and I feel like that is the case…and while I have a million things to do to day I had to tell this story because it was an experience last night that made my sister and me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and who doesn’t love that?:)

A couple months ago I was checking email and saw a code for a ticketmaster presale for a concert at the fair. Even though I didn’t know the act listed I decided to see what was available and my search brought me back tickets in the second row. I love live music and trying new things so I thought it would be fun and figured I had a month or two to look up the artist and learn their music. That never really happened and I’ve got so much on my plate right now I wanted to just give the tickets to someone. As it turned out they couldn’t be shipped and had to be picked up at will call the day of the show – so I was pretty much stuck going to the fair to pick them up and at that point not seeing the show seemed kind of silly. But as my sister parked the car we started talking about how we haven’t spent any non work time together in ages and what we really wanted was an evening hanging upside down and spinning on various rides…

The show itself was one of those where you can sit at the top for free or pay $15 for assigned seating (ok $20 because of all of Ticketmaster’s ‘convenience’ charges…I won’t go into the fact that these charges were a third of the tickets which is another pet peeve of mine.) Once we collected my three tickets we went up to the top and found a woman who was looking for her two friends and offered her the tickets. She actually knew who Emerson Drive and was so thrilled she hugged me. It feels really good to do something for someone you don’t know.

We ended up buying dizzy passes and having a lot of fun – and of course getting the mandatory roasted corn on the cob and elephant ears. The dizzy passes come with game tickets and at the end of the night we had a couple extra so naturally my sister found a little kid playing a game and tapped his dad on the shoulder to give him the tickets – he offered her cash for them but we declined and told them to enjoy their evening and headed for the car. It’s funny how all the different rushes you get from putting your life in the hands of a thrill ride operator don’t really compare to doing something nice for a total stranger… I highly recommend you try it….
